Junior English Translator

We are looking for a graduate or junior translator to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will become an integral part of our new Translation and localization division and will report directly to our Director of translation and localization services. They will be responsible for a variety of translation and editing tasks focused on the areas of IT, marketing, business & finance, and creative journalism. Training and mentoring will be provided for tools, processes, and all relevant areas as required.

Key Duties

  • Translation, editing and proofing from German into English
  • Localization from US English to UK English and to other English-speaking locales
  • Research and management of terminology, style guides, and reference material
  • Linguistic query management
  • Quality assessment and reporting
  • Project coordination
  • Vendor management
  • Participation in technical writing projects as needed
  • Participation in internal company projects
  • Assistance in training interns/newer team members when appropriate
  • Undertaking training on new tools and processes as required
  • Support in maintaining ISO certification and promoting continuous process improvement

Essential Requirements

  • Third level qualification in German
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, both internally and with client contacts
  • Ability to manage and report on assigned tasks in accordance with agreed priorities
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Willing to learn new tools
  • General knowledge of the industry, and open to learning about new areas quickly
  • Commitment to understanding and applying quality processes
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems using own initiative where appropriate
  • Flexible, proactive, and displays a can-do attitude

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s in Translation with German
  • A second working language
  • Practical experience in the translation industry
  • Knowledge of the latest computer-aided translation and workflow management tools
