Intermediate Technical Writer / Information Developer

We are looking for an experienced information developer to join our team on a full-time, contract basis. The successful candidate will become an integral part of one of our project teams and report directly into a team lead. They will be responsible for tasks that range from developing courseware for leading multinational software products to assisting in the creation of stand-alone user manuals. Training and mentoring will be provided for tools, processes, and all relevant areas as required.

We work primarily with clients who are involved in hi-tech, software, and pharmaceutical industries to create deliverables such as training material, e-learning, technical guides, user manuals, and online help.


Remote working can be offered after an initial period in the Cork office.

Contract Type

Full-time, fixed term contract of six months duration.

Primary tasks and responsibilities

  • Create documentation for our clients that is:
    • High quality and focused on defined documentation objectives
    • In accordance with any required client styles and standards and guidelines
    • Appropriate for the applicable target audience and industry sector
    • Based on input and sign-off from subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure completeness and accuracy
    • Developed using a range of cutting-edge tools and technologies
    • Delivered on time and according to client deadlines
  • Peer-edit documentation for other information developers
  • Contribute to internal company projects
  • Undertake training on new tools and processes as required
  • Mentor junior team members when appropriate
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in internal documentation processes
  • Contribute to the development of internal/external formal training material

Essential requirements

  • A third level qualification in technical writing, English, IT, or a related discipline
  • At least three years practical experience of working in a technical writing/e-learning/instructional design environment, preferably in the IT industry
  • A high-quality broadband connection and other required infrastructure to support working from home
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both internally and with client contacts
  • Understands and actively works towards meeting project objectives and milestones
  • Seeks out and takes responsibility for defined activities, and encourages others to achieve shared goals
  • A good working knowledge of commonly used authoring tools and a willingness to learn new ones when required
  • Good general knowledge of the technical communications industry and an openness to learn about new areas quickly, particularly how TWi products and solutions add value to a client’s business
  • A good understanding of documentation concepts and best practices, including information design and structuring principles
  • An ability to analyse moderately complex problems and propose logical solutions
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing conditions and work assignments
  • A commitment to self-training, including seeking out opportunities to gain additional exposure and experience
  • A work ethic that strives to achieve high quality results on all projects and tasks
  • A willingness to take personal responsibility to ensure client satisfaction in spite of time pressures and obstacles

Preferred requirements

  • Experience of SAP or other ERP software
  • Full driving licence
